Weaver Ant Eggs (Eggs, Larvae & Pupae) in a Can
Red weaver ant eggs (Kai Mod Daeng) are a highly prized delicacy in Thailand. The ants produce their eggs once a year during the cooler months of December and January. During this time, locals undertake the time-consuming and sometimes painful task of collecting the eggs. Once gathered, the eggs are wrapped in banana leaves and sold at local markets.
These eggs are typically prepared with shallots, lettuce, chillies, lime, and spices and served with sticky rice, creating a dish rich in nutrition and flavour.
The eggs in these cans are relatively large! Some pieces are egg-shaped, while others have nearly developed into larvae and pupae. They have a soft, jelly-like texture with a creamy, nutty flavour. They are commonly served in spicy salads but can also be enjoyed on toast or mixed into a soup of your choice.
Each can has a net weight of 400g, with a drained weight of 100g. Please note that the product pictured is a smaller can containing the same quantity of ant eggs. We stock both sizes and will ship whichever size is available; however, the drained weight of the eggs remains the same in both can sizes.
Can net weight: 100g.
