One edible Asian Forest Scorpion (Heterometrus Longimanus sp), packed in a unique retort pouch.
This bag contains one Heterometrus Longimanus Scorpion (Asian Forest Scorpion) in a retort pouch ready for cooking straight from the bag.
We source our scorpions from farms in Southeast Asia that breed them specifically for human consumption. They feed them a combination of crickets, worms, and other insects.
Heterometrus Longimanus Scorpions are common to most parts of Thailand and S.E. Asia. They are a delicacy to those in the northeast of Thailand and the S.E. Asia region. They are one of the few species that are known to be edible. Scorpions are ancient animals, and fossil records indicate that they were already in existence about 425 - 450 million years ago during the Silurian period and evolved from an amphibious ancestor.
Question: What do scorpions taste like?
Answer: Due to their evolution from an amphibious ancestor, their meat is similar to the sea prawn. Some people say the taste is similar to licorice without the sweetness, and one person compared them to dark chocolate.
This scorpion is ready-to-cook straight out of the bag and can be combined with any recipe.
We process the scorpions by flash freezing, cleaning, and cooking under pressure in a retort canning machine. This process gives the bags 18 months shelflife at room temperature.
All Thailand Unique products are manufactured in a GMP/HACCP accredited factory to be confident you are buying a safe and quality product.
